Moving to Dominica: permission and practical setup

A visitor extension keeps a pending residence applicant lawful but is not residence or work permission. Keep Immigration, Labour and practical registrations separate.

Separate visitor, residence and work status

Dominica says a residence applicant remains a visitor until status changes and must keep the visitor stay extended while the case is processed. Local work and permanent residence require their own decisions.

Prepare the residence evidence

The official checklist includes passport, medical and police evidence, references, financial support, return arrangements and civil records. Carry originals and retain every extension receipt.

Choose resilient, reachable housing

Test road access, flood and landslide exposure, storm protection, water, power, internet and the journey to work or school. Verify the landlord, inventory and utility terms before payment.

Connect work, tax and social security

Confirm the employer work-permit process, register with Social Security where applicable and ask Inland Revenue which obligations follow the actual activity. Reconcile the first payslip.

Map health and school services

Confirm public, employer and private healthcare for every family member and retain evacuation cover until limits are clear. Ask Education about placement, vaccination and prior-school records.

Check licences, Customs and pets

Ask the Traffic Department how the foreign licence is treated before driving. Obtain Customs and veterinary instructions before sending a vehicle, goods or a pet, and track every status expiry.
