Separate entry, residence and work permission

Eswatini publishes temporary-residence permits for employees, business people, dependants and students. An entry visa, Visitor Pass or Special Pass is not a substitute for the employee or business permit.

A visa waiver, visitor visa or business-visitor permission is not an open right to take employment or provide local services. Remote work also needs an immigration, labour and tax analysis unless the authority publishes a route that expressly covers it.

Complete the arrival record

Coordinate any South African transit permission with Eswatini entry and collect the temporary-residence record as directed. Verify employer, activity and validity and keep border stamps.

Inspect names, passport number, sponsor or purpose, permitted activity and expiry on every issued record. Keep the approval, receipt and a copy of the entry stamp outside the passport.

Make housing support the move

Mbabane, Manzini and rural postings have different commute, roads, utilities and healthcare. Inspect the property and document employer transport or cross-border medical referral.

Verify landlord authority, lease language, deposit, inventory, utilities, internet and early-exit terms. Keep the real address and payment trail for immigration, banking and employer files.

Set up banking, payroll and tax evidence

Confirm payroll and local tax registration and ask the bank which permit and address evidence it accepts. Keep South African and Eswatini travel and payment records distinct.

Ask the bank and tax authority for their live identity, permit, address, tax-number and source-of-funds requirements. Immigration status alone does not determine tax residence: retain travel days, payslips, foreign income and business invoices.

Plan each family member and essential service

Dependants and students need their own permits; an adult should not work without the matching permission. Check school route, healthcare and South African transit needs for each person.

A dependant, student or family residence document should not be treated as an adult work permit without confirmation. Carry legalised civil records, prescriptions, vaccination records and prior-school reports.

Control renewal, changes and current risk

Renew the temporary permit before expiry and clear employer or business changes. Check border hours, public events and current travel advice before routine cross-border movement.

Read current official travel advice for Eswatini, the exact region and any overland route before travel. Confirm that insurance covers the location and planned work.
