Moving to Guadeloupe: permission and practical setup
Guadeloupe is an overseas department outside Schengen. The France-Visas destination result and Guadeloupe prefecture process control the case; housing, schools, healthcare and ferries must then be planned for the specific island.

Use Guadeloupe, not generic mainland France, in the visa check
Select the exact overseas destination, purpose, nationality and duration in France-Visas. A talent or family applicant then follows the relevant residence route and Guadeloupe prefecture filing channel. A Schengen visa alone should not be assumed to authorise entry or settlement.
| Plan | Route | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Long stay | Long-Stay Overseas Visa | Guadeloupe-specific visa result |
| Qualified work | Talent Passport / Qualified Work | Talent eligibility and local filing |
| Family life | Private and Family Life Residence | Relationship and prefecture evidence |
Prepare visa, address and civil records before travel
Keep the France-Visas receipt, passport, civil translations, employer or family evidence and accommodation proof. The Guadeloupe prefecture directs specified residence requests online and publishes alternatives when an appointment is unavailable; use the current category instruction.
Choose Grande-Terre, Basse-Terre or an outer island deliberately
Finish visa validation or residence filing as instructed. Test the commute, ferry or flight dependency, hospital and school access. Inspect hurricane and flood resilience, water storage, ventilation, mould, power, internet, inventory and lease-break terms.
Connect Assurance Maladie, tax and banking
Identify the local health-insurance caisse and submit the correct residence, identity and work evidence; keep interim cover until active. Ask the tax service how the move and overseas income are treated. Banks separately assess identity, address, tax residence and income.
Plan school and healthcare island by island
Start school registration with the municipality and intended school, bringing identity, address, vaccination and prior records. Confirm local primary and specialist care and inter-island or mainland referral arrangements before choosing housing for a family.
Handle licences, ferries, Customs and pets early
Use the French licence rules for the issuing country and normal residence. Confirm vehicle registration and island freight before purchase. Obtain overseas Customs treatment and animal-health clearance before shipping goods, a vehicle or a pet.
