Use U.S. status but plan for Guam delivery

Guam is inside the U.S. federal immigration system. A noncitizen taking a job needs the petition and visa or status matching the worker category; a B visitor visa, ESTA or Guam-CNMI visitor admission is not employment permission.

Family immigration, employment-based permanent residence and student or exchange status are federal routes. The employer should confirm that the petition and worksite cover Guam before the move.

Verify I-94, worksite and identity records

After entry, retrieve and inspect the I-94 where one is issued and check class and admitted-until date. The visa foil’s expiry is not the same as the authorised stay.

Keep the petition approval, employment-authorisation evidence and passport together. An employer, role or status change must follow the federal process before new work begins.

Rent for typhoon resilience and commute

Guam housing decisions should include typhoon shutters or rated construction, backup power and water, mould, cooling costs and the commute to the worksite or school. Inspect the unit and document condition before payment.

Military access, civilian employment areas and village services are not interchangeable. Verify the landlord and utility responsibilities and keep the physical address for tax, licensing and banking.

Use Guam tax and payroll channels

Guam has a mirror income-tax system administered locally. Give payroll the actual Guam worksite and status and confirm filing with the Guam Department of Revenue and Taxation rather than sending everything automatically to a mainland state.

Banks may request federal identity, Social Security or tax numbers, immigration evidence and Guam address. Keep mainland, foreign and Guam residence and income records.

Check island networks and referral cover

Confirm the employer plan’s Guam provider network, prescriptions and off-island referral rules. A mainland policy card is not proof that Guam providers are in network.

Register family members with a local provider and hold typhoon supplies and clinical records. For complex care, confirm whether referral travel and an accompanying person are covered.

Transfer family, school and licence records

Each noncitizen family member needs their own valid federal status. A spouse may work only if their category or employment authorisation permits it; children need school and vaccination records.

Ask Guam licensing and the insurer how an existing licence is treated and complete vehicle registration and insurance locally. Do not assume a foreign or mainland licence remains sufficient indefinitely.

Track status separately from island travel

Calendar I-94, petition, passport, employment authorisation and dependant status separately. Travel through another country or U.S. port may create different document checks from an internal island journey.

Before leaving, settle Guam tax, vehicle, lease and utility records and preserve status and payroll documents for later federal filings.
