Moving to Guyana: permission and practical setup

An employment visa and its landing permission are evidence-driven and tied to the declared work. Visitor or business entry does not authorise ordinary employment, and practical setup differs sharply between Georgetown and remote project locations.

Match the visa and landing permission to the activity

The official employment service asks for the contract, employer material, police and medical evidence and English translations where needed. A business visit covers business travel, not taking a local job; students use their own status. Confirm the entry and extension sequence before travel.

Build the employment and family packet before departure

Keep passports, contracts, employer registration, police and medical records, qualifications and certified English translations together. Bring legalised birth, marriage, custody and consent documents for dependants and retain every online submission and landing stamp.

Plan location, climate and security around the job

A Georgetown office move and an interior mining, energy or infrastructure assignment need different housing, transport, medical evacuation and communications plans. Inspect flood exposure, water, power, internet, security, inventory and employer-provided accommodation terms.

Connect GRA, NIS and payroll records

Ask the employer to complete the applicable tax and National Insurance registrations and reconcile the first payslip. Immigration approval does not settle foreign tax residence. Banks conduct separate identity, address and source-of-funds checks, so keep an overseas payment method.

Verify medical and education capacity at the actual location

Confirm public, employer and private care, referral and evacuation cover for each person before travel to a remote post. Ask Education and the intended school for placement, immigration, vaccination and prior-school records; verify every dependant’s immigration basis.

Resolve driving, Customs and animal clearance

Ask the Guyana Revenue Authority about the driving permit or licence action applicable to a resident before using a foreign licence. Obtain Customs classification before shipping goods or a vehicle and veterinary clearance before a pet travels.
