Moving to Haiti: route feasibility and essential safeguards

The official public visa material supports visitor and official travel but does not provide a sufficiently complete general work-and-residence route. Treat relocation as unconfirmed until Haitian immigration and labour authorities give written instructions, and make security, healthcare and evacuation feasibility a go/no-go gate.

Do not turn visitor guidance into a residence claim

The Haitian embassy publishes tourist and diplomatic or official visa processes, not a general remote-work, retirement or ordinary residence route. Visitor admission is not work permission. A prospective employer or sponsor should obtain current written instructions from Haitian authorities before any move.

Require an authority-confirmed route packet

Ask the Haitian consulate, immigration service and Labour Ministry which entry, residence and work permissions apply and where they are filed. Prepare passport, police, medical, employer and civil evidence only against that written list; do not pay an unverified intermediary.

Make security and extraction capability a go/no-go test

Review current official travel advice immediately before any journey. Confirm secure transport from the airport or border, communications, accommodation, water, power and evacuation arrangements. If the organisation cannot support these, defer the move rather than improvising after entry.

Verify lawful payroll, banking and cash contingencies

Ask the employer for a written tax and social-contribution plan and confirm it with the responsible Haitian authority. Test lawful banking and transfer channels before travel, keep records of funds and avoid dependence on informal exchange or a single payment method.

Do not move dependants without verified medical and school capacity

Confirm an operational clinic or hospital, medicine supply, emergency transport and evacuation insurance at the actual location. Obtain a school’s written acceptance and document list. A family member’s visitor admission must not be treated as residence or work permission.

Delay freight, vehicles and pets until the move is viable

Confirm road access and security with the sponsoring organisation. Obtain Customs and veterinary decisions before shipping anything and verify whether cargo can be cleared and safely transported. Keep cancellation and evacuation plans current.
