Moving to Kazakhstan: a practical relocation guide

Kazakhstan makes the receiving party responsible for arrival and address notification within three working days. An IIN then unlocks salary, banking and public services, but it is not work or residence permission.

Choose the visa and residence branch together

Local employment generally needs an employer-supported work basis and the correct stay document; EAEU citizens follow a different labour branch. The Neo Nomad visa and IT-focused digital-nomad residence serve different applicants and neither should be treated as generic local work permission.

CIS citizens may use the temporary-residence permit service for work, business, family, study and other listed purposes. Other nationalities should align the correct visa category, invitation and residence position before travel.

Have the host notify migration within three working days

The receiving party must notify migration within three working days after arrival and after a change of residence, regardless of visa or visa-free entry. Filing can use the Visa and Migration Portal, migration service or eQonaq.

Obtain the submission evidence from the hotel, landlord or employer. The foreign national does not normally file this notice personally, but remains exposed if the stay is not regularised.

Obtain the IIN before payroll and banking stall

The official entry guide says an IIN is needed for a bank account, salary, digital signature, public services and government payments. Apply through the competent public-service channel with passport and translated or notarised evidence requested.

Keep the IIN separate from the work permit, visa and temporary residence record. A bank account or IIN never authorises work.

Tie the home and job to the approved records

Use an actual address whose host will submit migration notices. Record the lease, inventory and utility responsibility and repeat notification after a move.

Confirm the authorised employer, occupation and work location before starting. A job change can require a new employer permission and migration update.

Set up health, tax and family records separately

Ask the employer to confirm compulsory medical-insurance and social-contribution registration; non-workers and dependants should maintain cover until entitlement is verified. Use State Revenue Committee guidance for tax residence and foreign income.

Each dependant needs their own status where required. Take civil and school records and ask the local school about translation, placement and language support.

Calendar passport, job and residence expiry

Monitor the visa or permit validity, passport and employment basis together. Start extension before any element expires and keep arrival and address notifications.

Check foreign-licence recognition and vehicle registration through eGov before driving regularly; the issuing country changes the exchange branch.
