Moving to Libya: permission, arrival and practical setup
Libya’s eVisa portal includes a work-purpose entry category, but an eVisa alone is not a complete labour, employer and residence approval. Tourist, visit and family-visit eVisas must not be used for employment.

Libya’s eVisa portal includes a work-purpose entry category, but an eVisa alone is not a complete labour, employer and residence approval. Tourist, visit and family-visit eVisas must not be used for employment.
A visa waiver, visitor visa or business-visitor permission is not an open right to take employment or provide local services. Remote work also needs an immigration, labour and tax analysis unless the authority publishes a route that expressly covers it.

Complete the arrival record
Do not travel solely because an electronic visa issued. Any essential assignment needs verified employer sponsorship, local registration, secure reception, communications, medical support and exit routes.
Inspect names, passport number, sponsor or purpose, permitted activity and expiry on every issued record. Keep the approval, receipt and a copy of the entry stamp outside the passport.
Make housing support the move
FCDO advises against all travel to most of Libya and all but essential travel to only specified cities and areas. Housing must be part of a professional security and evacuation plan, not ordinary house-hunting.
Verify landlord authority, lease language, deposit, inventory, utilities, internet and early-exit terms. Keep the real address and payment trail for immigration, banking and employer files.
Set up banking, payroll and tax evidence
Document secure salary access, tax, hardship allowances, insurance and evacuation funding. Avoid moving family, assets or large deposits while routes and banking can change rapidly.
Ask the bank and tax authority for their live identity, permit, address, tax-number and source-of-funds requirements. Immigration status alone does not determine tax residence: retain travel days, payslips, foreign income and business invoices.
Plan each family member and essential service
A family visit eVisa is not a family relocation permission. Accompaniment needs separate status, school, healthcare, security and evacuation decisions.
A dependant, student or family residence document should not be treated as an adult work permit without confirmation. Carry legalised civil records, prescriptions, vaccination records and prior-school reports.
Control renewal, changes and current risk
FCDO advice current on 12 September 2026 advises against all travel to most of Libya and all but essential travel to specified cities including Tripoli and Benghazi. Recheck the live map before every movement.
A work-purpose eVisa is not a safety clearance. Consular reach, commercial routes and insurance may be limited; deployment needs independent professional security and exit planning.
