Separate entry, residence and work permission
Madagascar separates non-transformable tourist entry from transformable and long-stay visas for workers, investors, family and study. A tourist eVisa or visa on arrival cannot simply be converted into an ordinary employment plan.
A visa waiver, visitor visa or business-visitor permission is not an open right to take employment or provide local services. Remote work also needs an immigration, labour and tax analysis unless the authority publishes a route that expressly covers it.
| Plan | VisaAtlas route | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Long-stay worker visa | Long-Stay Worker Visa | Use a transformable entry and obtain work permission. |
| Work permit | Work Permit | Labour approval is separate from the visa. |
| Family reunification visa | Long-Stay Family Reunification Visa | Family status does not imply work. |
Complete the arrival record
Confirm the transformable visa, work permit and long-stay residence sequence before flying. Complete local filing with French-language employer and address evidence and keep each receipt.
Inspect names, passport number, sponsor or purpose, permitted activity and expiry on every issued record. Keep the approval, receipt and a copy of the entry stamp outside the passport.
Make housing support the move
Antananarivo commute and utilities require inspection, while coastal or project locations add cyclone, road, medical and supply risks. Test water, power and connectivity before the lease.
Verify landlord authority, lease language, deposit, inventory, utilities, internet and early-exit terms. Keep the real address and payment trail for immigration, banking and employer files.
Set up banking, payroll and tax evidence
Agree payroll and transfer mechanics and retain tax and foreign-exchange evidence. An investor should keep company-creation, capital and personal permit documents separate.
Ask the bank and tax authority for their live identity, permit, address, tax-number and source-of-funds requirements. Immigration status alone does not determine tax residence: retain travel days, payslips, foreign income and business invoices.
Plan each family member and essential service
Family and student long-stay visas have their own files; adult dependants need work authority. Confirm school calendar, evacuation cover and medicine access for the chosen region.
A dependant, student or family residence document should not be treated as an adult work permit without confirmation. Carry legalised civil records, prescriptions, vaccination records and prior-school reports.
Control renewal, changes and current risk
Track visa, residence and work-permit expiries and clear any employer or activity change. Check cyclone, road and regional safety advice before domestic travel.
Read current official travel advice for Madagascar, the exact region and any overland route before travel. Confirm that insurance covers the location and planned work.
