Match the overseas visa and residence category

Build a complete digital and original file
Keep passport, France-Visas receipt, translated civil records, address evidence and employer or family documents. Monitor ANEF messages and use the prefecture’s current category page: incomplete digital or paper files can be closed or refused without completing the intended residence action.
Choose the commune using commute and hazard exposure
Validate the long-stay visa or submit the title request through the instructed channel. Compare Fort-de-France access with other communes; inspect hurricane, flood, landslide or volcanic exposure, ventilation, water, power, internet and lease terms.
Start health, tax and bank administration with consistent data
Contact Assurance Maladie for the local enrolment route and retain interim cover until active. Establish the tax account or contact appropriate to the work and residence facts. Keep names and addresses identical across ANEF, payroll, health and bank files.
Complete municipal school and healthcare setup
Ask the mairie and school for placement, identity, address, vaccination and prior-school records. Confirm primary care, pharmacy and specialist access and plan transport to services from the chosen commune; verify each dependant’s residence document.
Resolve licence exchange, freight and pet entry
Use Service Public and France Titres for the issuing-country licence rule. Check overseas Customs before moving household goods or a vehicle and obtain animal-health instructions before pet travel; local registration and insurance are separate.
