Separate entry, residence and work permission
Mauritania’s eVisa system distinguishes tourism, business and longer validity, but entry permission does not establish a general work or residence right. The sponsor must confirm labour and residence authorisation before the move.
A visa waiver, visitor visa or business-visitor permission is not an open right to take employment or provide local services. Remote work also needs an immigration, labour and tax analysis unless the authority publishes a route that expressly covers it.
| Plan | VisaAtlas route | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Long-validity eVisa | Long-validity e-Visa | Entry validity is not employment authorisation. |
| Work or residence authority check | Work or Residence Authority Check | Obtain written confirmation before relocating. |
| Business eVisa | Business or Institutional e-Visa | Meetings are not local employment. |
Complete the arrival record
Use the authorised entry channel and complete police, labour and residence formalities with the sponsor. Preserve French or Arabic documents and do not start work on business eVisa logic.
Inspect names, passport number, sponsor or purpose, permitted activity and expiry on every issued record. Keep the approval, receipt and a copy of the entry stamp outside the passport.
Make housing support the move
Nouakchott and mining or desert sites have different water, cooling, road, communications and evacuation requirements. Employer-controlled transport is essential for remote work.
Verify landlord authority, lease language, deposit, inventory, utilities, internet and early-exit terms. Keep the real address and payment trail for immigration, banking and employer files.
Set up banking, payroll and tax evidence
Agree salary access, tax handling, hardship support and emergency cash. Keep official exchange and transfer records and delay asset moves until status is secure.
Ask the bank and tax authority for their live identity, permit, address, tax-number and source-of-funds requirements. Immigration status alone does not determine tax residence: retain travel days, payslips, foreign income and business invoices.
Plan each family member and essential service
Dependants need separate entry and residence confirmation, school access and evacuation-capable health cover. An adult needs work approval before employment.
A dependant, student or family residence document should not be treated as an adult work permit without confirmation. Carry legalised civil records, prescriptions, vaccination records and prior-school reports.
Control renewal, changes and current risk
Renew both work and residence authority, not only the eVisa, and clear sponsor changes. FCDO advice restricts substantial border and desert areas; use the live map.
Read current official travel advice for Mauritania, the exact region and any overland route before travel. Confirm that insurance covers the location and planned work.
