Moving to Myanmar during conflict: feasibility and limits
Myanmar is not a routine relocation. Armed conflict, air strikes, landmines, checkpoints, sudden curfews and arbitrary detention affect large areas. A tourist or business e-Visa does not establish work or residence permission.

Map the exact location against live conflict advice
FCDO advises against all travel or all but essential travel to much of Myanmar; Yangon still has heightened risk. Conditions can change quickly, with air strikes, artillery, road attacks and township curfews.
Postpone non-essential relocation. An essential employer must supply local security, shelter, communications and exit support.
Treat e-Visas as entry only
The official tourist and business e-Visa notices cover limited entry purposes. They do not publish a complete work, study or residence route.
For any long-term purpose, confirm the relevant ministry, employer approval, stay endorsement and foreigner-registration steps before travel.
| Record | Route to examine | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Tourism | Tourist eVisa | Not work or residence. |
| Business visit | Business eVisa | Meetings only unless separate work authority is confirmed. |
| Long-term purpose | Work, Study or Residence Authority Check | Authority check, not an ordinary published permit. |
Keep work and housing fully reversible
Do not begin local work on a business e-Visa alone. Have counsel verify the employer, approvals and reporting under the current authorities.
Avoid accommodation near military or government sites and routes exposed to checkpoints or conflict. Use short, cancellable terms and a departure trigger.
Plan around medical and banking failure
Healthcare, power and communications can be disrupted; medical evacuation may be difficult. Confirm explicit insurance coverage and more than one provider.
Banking and currency controls can block funds. Use lawful redundancy, preserve receipts and check sanctions without using informal transfer networks.
Do not normalise a dependant move
Schooling, healthcare and road access can change suddenly. Do not bring dependants without specialist security and evacuation arrangements.
Keep passports, visa records, cash within legal limits and land or air exit options under daily review. Leave before curfews, fighting or border closure trap the household.
