Moving to Nicaragua: permission and practical setup

Nicaragua classifies entry by nationality and separates visitor, temporary residence, work, study and permanent status. Public route pages can be guarded, so obtain the current checklist from Migration or the consular portal before paying or travelling.

Check nationality-based entry and residence purpose separately

The Ministry of Interior publishes visa-category dispositions and residence handling through Migration. Visitor entry does not authorise local work or indefinite residence. A work move needs the work-residence process, while family, study and permanent cases follow their own grounds.

Get the current official checklist before legalising records

Ask Migration or the consular portal for passport, police, medical, employer, income, study and civil evidence for the exact category. Confirm apostille or legalisation and Spanish translation. Keep entry, extension and filing receipts until the residence card is collected.

Complete migration registration and verify housing resilience

Follow the office instructions for registration and the resident document and keep address details consistent. Inspect earthquake, volcanic or flood exposure relevant to the location, water, power, internet, security, inventory and lease terms before paying.

Connect DGI, INSS and payroll records

Ask the employer to document INSS and payroll registration and reconcile the first payslip. Determine DGI registration from the actual work, business and income facts; immigration permission does not settle tax residence. Keep a backup payment route.

Confirm healthcare, school and dependant status

Verify public, employer and private health access and emergency transport for each person. Ask Education and the intended school about placement, immigration, vaccination and prior-school records; confirm any working partner separately.

Resolve licence, Customs and animal health before travel

Ask the traffic authority which local licence action applies before driving. Obtain Customs classification before freight and IPSA animal-health clearance before a pet travels; do not rely on carrier acceptance.
