Run the collectivity through France-Visas
Select Saint Barthélemy, nationality, purpose and duration in the official wizard. Talent and private-family routes use French residence concepts, but the overseas destination and prefecture process matter. A Schengen visitor visa or property arrangement is not assumed residence or local work authority.
| Plan | Route | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Long stay | Long-Stay Overseas Visa | Saint Barthélemy-specific visa result |
| Qualified work | Talent Passport / Qualified Work | Eligible French work status |
| Family life | Private and Family Life Residence | Relationship and prefecture process |
Secure both status and housing evidence before departure
Keep passport, visa receipt, translated civil records, employer or family evidence and a verifiable local address. Use the joint prefecture’s current instructions for visa validation, first title or renewal; do not rely on a mainland appointment page.
Make housing availability a hard feasibility gate
Confirm the exact unit and commute before travel because temporary accommodation is not a reliable bridge to a long lease. Inspect hurricane resilience, water, power, internet, inventory, insurance and exit terms and keep the address evidence required for services.
Confirm local tax and health administration explicitly
Saint Barthélemy has territory-specific fiscal features, so obtain written tax guidance for residence, employment, business and foreign income rather than applying a mainland shortcut. Ask Assurance Maladie or the responsible local body how health coverage starts and retain interim cover.
Verify school places and off-island care before moving
Ask local education services whether a place and age-appropriate programme are available and what documents are needed. Confirm primary care, medicines, emergency transfer and specialist treatment in Guadeloupe or elsewhere before moving dependants.
Plan a small-island vehicle and freight strategy
Check foreign-licence and vehicle-registration rules before importing or buying. Obtain Customs and animal-health instructions for the actual flight or sea route before freight or pet travel; limited storage and onward routing raise the cost of an error.
