Moving to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: permission and practical setup
OECS indefinite stay, CARICOM skilled movement and ordinary work or residence permission are different pathways. Choose the legal basis and the island together because work, healthcare, schools and transport are concentrated unevenly.

Use nationality-based mobility only when eligibility is proven
Qualifying OECS citizens can use the indefinite-stay process; CARICOM skilled movement requires the relevant CSME certificate and category. Other foreign workers need the work-permit route, and residence is a separate decision. Visitor admission is not local labour permission.
| Plan | Route | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Qualifying OECS citizen | OECS Indefinite Stay on Entry | Nationality and admission evidence |
| Eligible CARICOM skilled national | CSME Certificate Work Access | Certificate and category |
| Other local employment | Work Permit Only | Approved work permit |
| Combined longer move | Residence and Work Permit | Both decisions completed |
Keep nationality, skills, employer and family proof together
Carry passports, birth and relationship records, CSME or OECS evidence, employer papers, qualifications, police and medical records requested by the live process. Retain entry stamps, extension receipts and approvals; do not assume a principal’s status gives a partner work access.
Choose the island using real transport dependencies
Kingstown and St Vincent hold many government, health and school services; Grenadine island life can depend on ferries, flights and weather. Test the commute and inspect storm protection, water, power, internet, inventory and lease-break terms before committing.
Complete Inland Revenue and NIS separately
Ask the employer to establish the correct National Insurance and payroll record and confirm Inland Revenue registration for the activity. Bank onboarding requires separate identity, address, immigration and source-of-funds evidence; keep a functioning backup payment route.
Map health, school and emergency travel
Confirm local clinic, hospital, employer and insurance arrangements for every family member, including transfer or evacuation limits from a smaller island. Ask Education about placement, immigration, vaccination and prior-school records before signing around a school.
Plan licences, inter-island freight and pets
Confirm the resident driving process with the licensing authority before using a foreign licence. Obtain Customs treatment before shipping goods or a vehicle and Agriculture clearance before a pet travels; airline acceptance is not government import approval.
