Moving to St Kitts and Nevis: permission and practical setup

Citizenship, immigration residence and a work permit are separate. Most foreign employees need employer-supported permission, while the choice between St Kitts and Nevis shapes commuting, schools, medical access and household transport.

The government work guidance starts with a job and employer support. Do not begin work on visitor admission, a pending permit or a citizenship-by-investment application. Permanent residence is a separate decision; confirm every dependant and a working partner individually.

Build one coherent employer and family file

Keep the job letter, employer submission, passport, police, medical, qualification and reference records required by the live checklist. Bring legalised civil and custody documents for dependants, complete the official travel form where required, and preserve the entry and permission record.

Choose the island before committing to a home

A home on Nevis with a job or school on St Kitts creates ferry and weather dependency. Test the routine; inspect water storage, storm protection, power, internet and lease terms. Verify the landlord and retain address and payment evidence.

Activate Social Security and Inland Revenue records

Ask the employer to register the worker with Social Security and reconcile the first contribution record. Confirm the actual tax position with Inland Revenue; a work permit is not a tax clearance, and banking still requires identity, address and source-of-funds evidence.

Map healthcare and school on the chosen island

Confirm public, employer and private healthcare access for every family member and retain evacuation cover until the real pathway is clear. Ask Education and the intended school for placement, immigration, vaccination and prior-school records before fixing housing.

Finish licence, customs and pet actions

Use Inland Revenue’s driving service to confirm the local licence process before driving. Obtain Customs classification before shipping a vehicle or household goods and veterinary entry instructions before booking a pet. Track work, dependant, licence and insurance dates together.
