Moving to Sudan: permission, arrival and practical setup

A visa waiver, visitor visa or business-visitor permission is not an open right to take employment or provide local services. Remote work also needs an immigration, labour and tax analysis unless the authority publishes a route that expressly covers it.

Complete the arrival record
FCDO advises against all travel. Do not travel because a visa or invitation exists; airports and routes can change, and there is no in-person British consular support inside Sudan.
Inspect names, passport number, sponsor or purpose, permitted activity and expiry on every issued record. Keep the approval, receipt and a copy of the entry stamp outside the passport.
Make housing support the move
Ordinary housing, banking or school setup should not be presented as feasible under ongoing conflict. Essential humanitarian presence requires organisational shelter, communications, medical and evacuation arrangements.
Verify landlord authority, lease language, deposit, inventory, utilities, internet and early-exit terms. Keep the real address and payment trail for immigration, banking and employer files.
Set up banking, payroll and tax evidence
Keep salary, insurance, emergency funds and evacuation finance accessible outside Sudan. Avoid moving dependants, household goods, business capital or deposits.
Ask the bank and tax authority for their live identity, permit, address, tax-number and source-of-funds requirements. Immigration status alone does not determine tax residence: retain travel days, payslips, foreign income and business invoices.
Plan each family member and essential service
A family move should be deferred. An entry visa provides no assurance of residence, school, healthcare, work permission, safe transport or evacuation.
A dependant, student or family residence document should not be treated as an adult work permit without confirmation. Carry legalised civil records, prescriptions, vaccination records and prior-school reports.
Control renewal, changes and current risk
FCDO advice current on 12 September 2026 advises against all travel to Sudan because of ongoing military conflict, with only two disputed areas under all-but-essential advice.
Immigration permission and operational safety are separate. Reassess any essential presence continuously with professional security advice and an independent exit plan.
