Moving to Turks and Caicos Islands: permission and practical setup

TCI has its own Border Force and immigration system. UK status, property, a visitor admission or a business trip does not automatically authorise residence or employment; use the exact local permit and confirm the island before committing.

Use the local permit matching the activity

Border Force distinguishes work, temporary work, business visitor, homeowner or residence and permanent-status processes. A business visitor permit is not ordinary employment, and owning a home is not a work right. Confirm each dependant and any partner who plans to work.

Use current Border Force forms and instructions

Prepare passport, employer, police, medical, qualification, support and civil records from the live service. Do not substitute a UK or another territory document. Carry approval and entry evidence and track any separate re-entry condition.

Choose Providenciales, Grand Turk or another island deliberately

Jobs, ferries, schools, hospitals and freight differ by island. Inspect hurricane resilience, cistern, generator, cooling, internet, inventory and lease terms, and verify off-island medical and storm-evacuation plans.

Connect payroll, NHIB, NIB and tax administration

Ask the employer to document work-permit, National Health Insurance and National Insurance registration and payroll treatment. Confirm Revenue Department obligations for the actual activity. Banks separately verify identity, status, address and funds.

Verify health, school and partner permissions

Confirm active NHIP or private coverage for every person, provider access on the chosen island and overseas referral limits. Ask Education for placement and records. A dependant or homeowner status should not be treated as work authorisation.

Plan licence, freight and pet clearance

Ask the Road Safety Department which resident licence action applies before driving. Obtain Customs treatment before shipping goods or a vehicle and Agriculture import permission before a pet travels; island storage and return costs are material.
