Use Wallis and Futuna territorial permission
The territorial State service publishes specific short- and long-stay visa evidence. It includes a long-stay application with work authorisation; a Schengen visa or metropolitan French stay document should not be assumed to cover the collectivity.
The employer should obtain the local work approval and align it with the consular long-stay application before travel. A short visit cannot be used as a speculative job-search residence.
| Plan | VisaAtlas route | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Employment | Work-Authorised Long-Stay Visa | Long-stay and work authorisation must align. |
| Other long stay | Long-Stay Overseas Visa | Use the purpose and territorial validity shown. |
| Family stay | Family / Private-Life Long-Stay Visa | Confirm work permission independently. |
| Short visit | Short-Stay Overseas Visa | Visitor permission is not work authorisation. |
File before relying on limited flights
Confirm the responsible French consulate or prefecture and the originals, accommodation, funds, medical and work evidence it requires. Keep the local employer decision and visa application as separate records.
Check transit visas for every routing country. A missed connection can materially affect the arrival plan, so keep accommodation and employer contacts offline.
Choose Wallis or Futuna before committing
Wallis and Futuna have different air, sea, health and school access. Confirm the work island, inter-island transport, freight schedule and an inspected home before shipment.
Check cyclone resilience, water, power, communications and vehicle availability. Employer housing should include a contingency if cargo or family arrival is delayed.
Plan evacuation as core infrastructure
Confirm local primary and hospital care and the referral destination for treatment unavailable in the territory. Carry prescriptions, clinical records and adequate supplies.
Insurance must cover the actual territory, inter-island transport and long-distance medical evacuation. Do not infer full coverage from a French social-security number without confirming local registration.
Sequence family entry, school and work
Each family member needs territorially valid entry and stay permission. An accompanying adult should not work until the local work authorisation is confirmed.
Secure school capacity and transport on the correct island and prepare civil, vaccination and prior-school records. Clear pet and biosecurity requirements before freight booking.
Test payroll, banking and access to cash
Ask the employer and bank which local work, stay, address and tax documents they accept. Keep a backup payment method and enough contingency for flight or communications disruption.
Track French, territorial and foreign income and travel facts for tax advice. Working online from the territory is not automatically outside local work or tax rules.
Renew before travel becomes the deadline
Begin work and residence renewal while flights and official appointments remain available and clear employer or activity changes before they occur.
Confirm territorial re-entry wording and transit documents before leaving. Close housing, tax, health and utility records deliberately at the end of the assignment.
