Moving to Yemen: feasibility and safety limits
FCDO advises against all travel to Yemen and tells British nationals there to leave immediately. Embassy services in Sana’a are suspended, the UK has no evacuation procedure, and the public visa material does not establish an ordinary work or residence route.

Do not undertake a voluntary move
Security conditions are unpredictable across Yemen. Conflict, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary detention, mines, air strikes and sudden border or airspace disruption can affect both Houthi- and government-controlled areas.
Postpone voluntary relocation. Essential organisations should use professional security, medical and extraction systems; an individual visa or employer invitation is not adequate risk control.
Treat the visa records as narrow entry evidence
The Yemeni Embassy in Washington says it is not issuing tourist visas and requires a Yemeni immigration invitation for the applicants it serves. Its public page supports business, student and diplomatic or official evidence, but not a complete work-and-residence process.
FCDO says a visa is required and directs British applicants to the Yemeni Embassy in the UK. Confirm the issuing mission, controlling authority, sponsor, permitted territory and any work or residence approval in writing before travel.

Do not rely on informal entry or registration
Use only an official crossing and the approved territory and sponsor chain. FCDO says visits longer than 14 days require passport registration with Yemeni immigration authorities.
Obtain dated proof of every registration and movement approval. Separate authorities may exercise control in different regions, so independent legal and security advice is essential.
Keep work, housing and money reversible
Do not work until the competent authority confirms employment and residence permission beyond the business visa. Essential employers should provide secure housing, movement protocols, communications and an executable exit plan.
Banking and cash access are fragile. Use lawful, audited payment channels, screen counterparties against sanctions and avoid large deposits or informal sanctions workarounds.
Do not normalise a dependant move
Emergency services and healthcare have severely limited capacity; insurance or evacuation may not operate against travel advice. Confirm medicine, treatment and evacuation arrangements before any essential deployment.
Do not bring dependants under an ordinary relocation plan. Anyone already in Yemen should keep documents and departure funds accessible, monitor borders and airspace continuously, and leave before routes close.
