Moving to Armenia: a practical relocation guide
Armenia currently separates residence status from several work and civil-registration steps. Choose the live route, keep a registrable address and translated evidence, and do not apply the replacement immigration law before its 1 November 2026 commencement.

Choose the live legal route, not the future one
Temporary residence currently covers recognised purposes including employment, study, business, Armenian origin and qualifying family links. Employment cases normally begin with the employer on the Workpermit platform; Eurasian Economic Union citizens working under an Armenian contract follow an exemption branch.
A replacement law has been published but enters into force on 1 November 2026. Until then, use the current Migration and Citizenship Service procedure. The law preserves the old rules for applications lodged before commencement, so record the filing date and do not mix document lists from the two systems.
| Move basis | Route to examine | Key dependency |
|---|---|---|
| Armenian employment | Temporary Residence for Employment | The employer normally starts the vacancy and work-based residence workflow. |
| Genuine business activity | Temporary Residence for Business / Self-Employment | Show the actual Armenian business basis; registration alone is not a complete relocation plan. |
| Qualifying family | Temporary Residence for Family (Armenia) | Each family member needs their own status and supporting relationship evidence. |
Build a translated, appointment-ready file
The current residence-status service asks for a passport with a notarised Armenian translation, photographs, health evidence, proof of lawful stay and evidence of the claimed residence ground. Prepare separate originals and appointments for accompanying family members.
Confirm apostille or legalisation requirements for civil-status and education records with the receiving authority before travel. A short rental booking may establish where you sleep but may not supply the owner cooperation or stable correspondence address needed for later services.
Keep entry, residence and address records separate
Lawful entry does not itself grant a right to work or remain indefinitely. Preserve the entry record, application receipt and residence card as separate evidence, and monitor the authorised stay while an application is prepared.
Use the address actually occupied for official correspondence. Ask the Migration and Citizenship Service whether a later move must be reflected in the population or migration record, and obtain the landlord documents before committing to a long lease.
Connect permission to payroll and tax
The employer-led work platform combines the employment basis with work-based residence processing for most third-country nationals. Do not start work on the strength of visa-free admission or an unfinished employer submission. EAEU workers should retain the employment contract that supports their exemption.
Immigration status and tax residence are separate. Obtain a taxpayer number through the applicable State Revenue Committee process, keep a travel-day log and seek cross-border advice if a home, employer or business remains abroad.
Arrange healthcare and family services deliberately
Residence approval is not a promise that every medical cost is publicly covered. Identify the employer, state-programme or private-insurance basis for each family member and keep cover active until eligibility is confirmed by the provider.
For children, approach the intended school with identity, prior reports and vaccination or health records. Ask what must be translated and who decides grade placement. Family residence, school admission and healthcare enrolment remain separate processes.
Plan banking, driving and border risk
Banks set their own identity, address, tax-residence and source-of-funds checks. Compare onboarding requirements before relying on an Armenian account for a lease or payroll, and retain transaction records without treating the account as immigration evidence.
Check driving-licence recognition by issuing country before driving. Avoid all travel within five kilometres of Armenia's eastern border with Azerbaijan under current UK advice; border conditions can change independently of a residence permit.
Your moving checklist
Tick off the tasks that apply to you. The timing is a planning order, not a substitute for the deadlines on your permission or an official instruction.
