Moving to Aruba: permission and practical setup
Paid employment is tied to DIMAS residence permission, the labour-market process and the specified employer and role. Family, study and investor residents use separate applications and must not infer unrestricted work rights.

Match DIMAS permission to the exact role
DIMAS says a paid-employment applicant needs the work and residence process, with DPL labour-market review, and permission is linked to the approved employer and position. A short project, family reunion or investor case uses a different route and does not imply general labour access.
| Plan | Route | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Local employment | Paid Employment Work and Residence Permit | DPL review and DIMAS permission |
| Defined short project | Short-term Project Permit | Project-specific approval |
| Family move | Family Reunification / Family Formation Residence | Relationship and sponsor evidence |
| Investor or shareholder | Investor and Shareholder Residence | Business and residence evidence |
Use the current DIMAS checklist for each applicant
Prepare passports, birth and relationship records, police and medical evidence, employer or business documents and proof of support. Confirm apostille or legalisation and accepted language. Do not start work while an application is pending.
Complete civil registration and choose housing carefully
Follow DIMAS and Censo instructions for the residence document and population record. Inspect cooling costs, water, electricity, internet, storm and flood exposure, inventory and lease terms; verify that the address is accepted for government and bank records.
Connect tax, social insurance and AZV eligibility
Ask the employer to document tax and social-insurance registration and reconcile the first payroll record. Determine AZV health-insurance enrolment from lawful residence and registration rather than from the job offer alone. Banks make separate identity, address and source-of-funds checks.
Coordinate dependants, healthcare and school language
Confirm every dependant’s DIMAS and Censo status and whether a partner needs separate work permission. Verify AZV or private cover before cancelling interim insurance. Ask the school about placement, language, immigration, vaccination and prior-school documents.
Plan a resident licence and controlled imports
Ask the driver-licensing authority how the issuing licence is treated before driving. Obtain Customs decisions before shipping goods or a vehicle and Veterinary Service import permission before a pet travels; island freight and storage make rejected cargo costly.
Your moving checklist
Tick off the tasks that apply to you. The timing is a planning order, not a substitute for the deadlines on your permission or an official instruction.
