Moving to Denmark: residence document, CPR and health-card sequence
The practical chain is permission, permanent address, CPR registration, yellow health card, MitID and tax card. EU residence documents and non-EU permits come from different systems, and CPR does not replace either.

Secure the correct residence and work basis first
Before moving, use New to Denmark and Life in Denmark to decide whether you need a residence and work permit or an EU residence document. Do not arrive as a visitor and assume a job contract permits work.
Confirm employer, role, workplace and start date against the approval. Partners and children need their own residence basis. If using an International Citizen Service centre, identify which authorities are present and book only after the prerequisite approval and address evidence are ready.
Use the address to unlock CPR registration
Nordic citizens do not need an EU residence document. Other eligible EU, EEA and Swiss movers obtain their EU residence document before CPR address registration; other nationalities generally present the required permit. You must actually live at the Danish address. The official arrival guide distinguishes three-month and six-month stay thresholds for notification by nationality; ask the municipality which applies to your move.
The CPR number is the civil-registration identifier used across public services; it is not immigration permission. Check spelling, relationship and address data before leaving the appointment. Put names on the letterbox so the health card and official post can arrive.
Set up the yellow card, doctor and MitID deliberately
After CPR registration, the yellow health-insurance card records access details and assigned general practitioner. Confirm the date coverage starts and how each family member chooses or receives a doctor; arrange interim insurance where official coverage has not begun.
MitID and Digital Post become essential for public services, banking and tax, but they are access tools rather than residence rights. Complete identity activation through the accepted channel and read Digital Post regularly once enabled.
Get a tax card before payroll becomes expensive
Life in Denmark says workers must be registered to work and pay tax and provides routes for a tax card and personal tax number. Apply with the employment and identity evidence requested, give payroll the result, and check income, deductions and withholding on the first payslip.
Banks still verify identity, address, tax residence and source of funds. For housing, verify ownership or agency, deposit and prepaid rent, inspection report, utilities and termination conditions. Do not sign solely to obtain a CPR address.
Follow dependencies instead of booking everything at once
The following order prevents most circular-document problems.

Check licence and family tasks without delay
Foreign-licence use and exchange depend on whether the licence is EU or EEA and on the issuing country. Check Life in Denmark after establishing normal residence and do not assume an international licence changes the exchange requirement.
Register each child, contact the municipality for childcare or school, and give a working spouse their own permission check. Calendar permit, passport, health card and licence dates. Report a later move through the CPR address service and notify other providers where the change does not flow automatically.
