Moving to Grenada: permission and practical setup
Foreign employment needs the correct work permit even where a person has residence status. Employer compliance, NIS, tax and healthcare are separate practical checks.

Do not treat residence as a work permit
Grenada’s Labour Department says employers must secure work permits for foreign national employees, including permanent-residence holders where the law requires. A permanent-residence case remains separate from job approval.
| Plan | Route | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Local employment | Grenada Work Permit | Employer and approved worker |
| Permanent residence | Grenada Permanent Residence | Separate immigration status |
Use the Labour checklist, not an informal list
The current work-permit page requires prescribed forms, passport and arrival evidence, police and qualification records, references, finance and employer compliance. Non-English documents need an English translation.
Verify housing and hurricane resilience
Inspect storm protection, slope and flood exposure, water, power, internet, inventory and notice terms. Retain the lease and payments and use Customs guidance before shipping goods.
Reconcile NIS, tax and employment records
The work-permit process checks employer NIS and tax compliance. Confirm the worker’s own registration and first contribution, ask Inland Revenue what the activity requires and keep a backup payment route during banking checks.
Confirm health, school and dependant status
Verify healthcare, employer benefits and evacuation insurance for every family member. Ask Education for school placement and document requirements, and confirm a spouse’s work permission separately.
Finish driving and pet-entry steps
Use the government service portal to confirm local licence steps before driving, and obtain Veterinary and Livestock instructions before booking a pet. Track work, residence, NIS and insurance renewals.
Your moving checklist
Tick off the tasks that apply to you. The timing is a planning order, not a substitute for the deadlines on your permission or an official instruction.
