Moving to Saint Lucia: permission and practical setup

Non-national employment uses the Work Permit Unit and must be approved for the actual worker and job. Permanent residence is a separate status; a property purchase or citizenship application should not be used as interim authority to work.

Prepare employer, police and civil evidence

Use the current Work Permit Unit checklist for employer documents, qualifications, police and medical evidence. Keep birth, marriage, custody and consent records for dependants and preserve entry and extension receipts.

Choose a district using the daily journey

Castries, the north and the south differ in employment access, schools, healthcare and airport journey. Inspect flood and storm exposure, water, power, internet, inventory and notice terms before a long lease.

Complete NIC and Inland Revenue onboarding

Ask the employer to register the worker with the National Insurance Corporation and reconcile the first contribution. Confirm Inland Revenue duties for employment, business or foreign income and keep a backup account during bank compliance checks.

Confirm health, school and partner permissions

Verify public, employer and private healthcare access plus evacuation cover for each person. Contact Education for school placement and document requirements, and confirm a partner’s own permission before local work.

Check licence, imports and veterinary clearance

Ask the Transport Department how the foreign licence is treated before driving. Obtain Customs classification before shipping a vehicle or goods and Veterinary Services clearance before a pet travels.
