Overview

Brazil digital-nomad route was created by CNIg Resolution 45/2021 and is delivered through the VITEM XIV temporary visa. It is for immigrants who perform their work activities remotely for a foreign employer or foreign clients while residing in Brazil. The Ministry of Justice publishes a practical guide for the route. The authorization is granted for a limited period and is renewable.

  1. Check the route fit

    Confirm the remote, foreign-source nature of your work and the current income/savings threshold against CNIg Resolution 45/2021 on the official guide.

  2. Build the evidence pack

    Gather the foreign-employer or client contract, income/savings proof, health insurance, passport, and criminal-record certificate.

  3. Submit through the official channel

    Apply for the VITEM XIV visa at a Brazilian consulate, or request the residence authorization through the official MigranteWeb system.

  4. After approval

    Enter Brazil on the VITEM XIV visa and register with the Federal Police to receive the CRNM residence card.

  5. 5. Keep the ongoing conditions visible. Record the actual expiry, renewal process, permitted absences and any duty to report changes. An initial grant does not automatically establish permanent residence or citizenship.
