Overview

The Pensionado category grants temporary residence to foreign nationals who receive a stable, permanent lifetime pension from a government body, international organisation or recognised institution. The pension must meet a minimum monthly amount and be remitted to Costa Rica. The category is granted for a defined period and renewable, allows dependents, and after the qualifying period of temporary residence the holder can apply for permanent residence. It is administered by the DGME.
