Overview
The Work Residence Permit is the primary route for foreign nationals who come to Qatar for employment. A Qatari employer (a company or an individual) must sponsor the worker, and it is the employer who is responsible for the paperwork. On initial entry the employer arranges a temporary visa, which is then converted into the Work Residence Permit; the permit is renewed each year by the employer. Work-permit and recruitment approvals are processed through the Ministry of Labour, while residence permits are issued by the Ministry of Interior. The permit is tied to the sponsoring employer.
