Moving to Honduras: permission and practical setup

Honduras uses residence and special-permission categories tied to the actual purpose. A tourist extension, company ownership or property does not by itself authorise long-term residence or local work.

INM publishes residence and special-permission categories for contracted workers, investors, pensioners or rentiers, family and students. Match the purpose and evidence; visitor status is not a holding permission for local work, and a partner needs their own work answer.

Complete apostille and Spanish translation before departure

Use the live INM category page for passport, police, medical, civil, contract, income or study evidence. Confirm document validity and authentication early; retain entry, extension, appointment and payment records until the resident document is collected.

Finish immigration and address actions carefully

Follow INM instructions for registration and the foreigner document, and keep names and address identical across records. Assess neighbourhood security, flood and storm exposure, water, power, internet, commute, inventory and termination terms before a long lease.

Connect SAR, IHSS and payroll to the approved activity

Ask a local employer to confirm tax and IHSS enrolment and reconcile the first payslip. Determine SAR registration from the actual income and business facts; immigration status does not decide foreign tax residence. Keep an overseas account during local bank checks.

Verify healthcare, school and safety logistics

Confirm public, IHSS, employer and private care for each person and identify emergency transport from the chosen area. Ask Education and the intended school for placement, address, vaccination and prior-school records; verify each dependant’s status.

Check licence, Customs and pet entry before arrival

Ask the transit authority which licence process applies to a resident before driving. Obtain Customs classification before shipping household goods or a vehicle and SENASA animal-health clearance before booking a pet.
