Moving to Namibia: a practical relocation guide
Namibia distinguishes employment, study, investor and permanent-residence permissions, while its Digital Nomad Visa is a temporary remote-work product rather than local-employment authorisation or a settlement shortcut.

Choose the legal route before the travel route
Local employment requires the Home Affairs permission that matches the employer and role. A visitor entry or pending employment application is not a right to start work. Investors and students use different evidence and must keep the approved purpose.
The Digital Nomad Visa is for eligible foreign-sourced remote work during a temporary stay. It should not be sold as permission to join a Namibian payroll, serve local clients freely or progress automatically to permanent residence.

Prepare the permit file and arrival record
Confirm the current forms, police and medical evidence, qualifications, contract or remote-income records, insurance and dependant documents directly with Home Affairs or NIPDB. Do not copy thresholds from an old relocation blog.
On arrival, inspect the endorsement and conditions and preserve the approval letter. Ask when local presentation, address notification or collection is required and keep each dependant’s document separate.
Plan housing for distance, water and transport
Windhoek, the coast and remote work or mining locations have different housing and transport constraints. Verify landlord authority, lease, inventory, utilities, water, internet and security, and test connectivity before a remote-work commitment.
Distances between services can be substantial. Confirm workplace transport, emergency care and vehicle support before signing a remote lease.
Keep NamRA and banking evidence from day one
Ask the bank for its current permit, address, employer or income, tax and source-of-funds documents. Nomads should confirm how foreign income can be received and preserve every transfer record.
A Digital Nomad Visa label does not settle Namibian or home-country tax residence. Record days, work location, client and employer facts, payroll and foreign income and obtain NamRA or professional advice.
Check healthcare, school, driving and dependants
Confirm private cover, evacuation limits and provider access for the precise town. Carry medical and vaccination records; families should investigate school place, calendar, transport and boarding implications before choosing housing.
Dependants need their own status and work analysis. Verify foreign-licence validity, any conversion step and insurer acceptance before long-distance driving.
Do not confuse renewal with permanent residence
Employment, nomad, study, investor and permanent-residence applications have different tests. Begin renewal early and clear changes to employer, activity or address before relying on the original approval.
Check weather and road conditions as well as official travel advice before remote journeys. Preserve tax, insurance, lease and permit closure evidence on departure.
