Overview
If a Namibian employer is hiring you, the employment permit is the authorisation that lets you work for them lawfully. It is issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security (MHAISS), typically where the employer can show the role calls for a foreign hire, and applications are submitted to the Ministry, increasingly through its e-services. The permit is tied to that employer and the specific role, and is renewable rather than permanent, so on its own it does not lead to settlement - though years of lawful residence on it can support a later permanent residence application. Good to know: the employment permit is the everyday work route, and it is separate from the Digital Nomad Visa, which is run by a different body (the NIPDB) for remote workers paid from abroad.

Frequently asked questions
Is the employment permit the same as the Digital Nomad Visa?+
No. The employment permit is for working for a Namibian employer and is issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Digital Nomad Visa is a separate, short visa run by the NIPDB for remote workers paid from outside Namibia, and it does not allow a local job. Confirm which fits you on the official channels.
Does the employment permit lead to permanent residence?+
Not on its own. It is tied to your employer and is renewed rather than permanent. After enough years of lawful residence you may be able to apply for a permanent residence permit. Confirm the current rules on the official Ministry of Home Affairs page.
