Overview

If you have been admitted to study in Namibia, the study permit keeps your stay in order while you complete your course. It is issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security on the basis of your enrolment at a recognised Namibian institution and your means to support your studies, and applications are submitted to the Ministry. It is tied to your enrolment and renewed alongside your studies, and it does not by itself lead to settlement - students who want to stay on after graduating usually move to a work or other residence basis. Good to know: the permit is for studying, so any paid work follows the separate work rules rather than coming automatically with the study permit.

ℹ️ Who can apply?

You do not need a job offer or employer to apply for the Study Permit. This route does not lead to permanent residence. Open to qualifying applicants from all countries.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work while studying in Namibia?+−

Can I stay in Namibia after I graduate?+−

The study permit is tied to your enrolment, so to stay on after graduating you generally move to a work or other residence basis, such as an employment permit. Confirm the current options on the official Ministry of Home Affairs page.

Does my Namibian study permit lapse if I stop studying?+−
