Residency Certificate for Persons of Independent Means

Overview

The Residency Certificate for Persons of Independent Means lets a financially independent foreign national reside in the Cayman Islands without the right to work, based on showing a continuous annual income and/or investment, including in developed real estate. Good to know: although the certificate is issued for a long period (commonly 25 years and renewable thereafter), it does not confer permanent residence - it is a long-stay residence right, not settled status. The thresholds differ for Grand Cayman versus Cayman Brac or Little Cayman, and are significant, so treat any figure as indicative. The Immigration Department administers it.

   Check the route fit

   Confirm on the official Cayman Islands Immigration page the income, asset and real-estate thresholds for the island you want (they differ for Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands).

2. 02

   Build the evidence pack

   Assemble proof of income and assets, the real-estate investment, financial references, passport and police clearance.

3. 03

   Submit through the official channel

   Submit the certificate application to the Cayman Islands Immigration Department through the official channel.

4. 04

   After approval

   Once granted, reside in Cayman without working; remember the certificate, despite its long term, does not confer permanent residence.
