Overview

Malawi publishes visa, permit and citizenship guidance through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services, with online filing through the official eVisa and e-Permit portals. The public pages give the route framework and some fees, but permit checklists and current filing mechanics can sit inside the live portals or application forms, so applicants should confirm the latest document list and fee before submitting. The official eVisa public notice effective 24 February 2026 says nationals of Category Two countries are eligible to obtain a visa on arrival at all designated ports of entry into Malawi. It also says Category One nationals must obtain a visa or prior authorisation before departure, and that all travellers must comply with standard entry requirements. Even where visa on arrival is available, the notice strongly encourages applying through the official eVisa portal before departure to reduce processing time at the port of entry.

ℹ️ Who can apply?

You do not need a job offer or employer to apply for the Visa on Arrival for Category Two Nationals. This route does not lead to permanent residence. Open to qualifying applicants from all countries.
