Skilled Worker visa for Bangladeshi citizens

Work visa for non-UK workers with a job offer from a Home Office–licensed sponsor in an eligible occupation.

Requires employer sponsorshipLeads to permanent residencyUp to 5 years on initial grant, extendable; leads to settlement after continuous residence. In flux

This page covers the Skilled Worker visa specifically for Bangladeshi applicants — including document requirements, consular procedures, and common issues specific to Bangladesh. The general eligibility criteria apply to everyone.

What Bangladeshi applicants should know

Bangladeshi applicants must complete a TB test at an approved IOM clinic in Dhaka before applying. ECCTIS degree-equivalence assessment is essential for non-IT roles; Bangladeshi degree recognition is unevenly recorded in the UK NARIC database. Care-worker dependant restrictions from 2024 affect new Bangladeshi applicants on the care sub-stream.

Visa overview

The Skilled Worker visa is the UK's primary sponsored work route, replacing Tier 2 (General) in 2020. It requires a job offer from a Home Office–licensed sponsor, an occupation at RQF Level 6 (degree level) or above for new applications since 22 July 2025, English-language proficiency, and salary at or above the route-specific thresholds. Sub-degree (RQF 3–5) occupations are only sponsorable where they appear on the Immigration Salary List or the Temporary Shortage List, and workers already in the route before 22 July 2025 keep transitional access to RQF 3–5 roles.
