EU Blue Card (Germany)
Work and residence permit for highly qualified non-EU professionals with a qualifying German job offer.
For Egyptian public documents required by a German authority, follow the German Embassy Cairo legalisation procedure. Egypt is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention: an apostille is not a substitute for the required German legalisation. Check which documents the receiving authority actually needs before arranging authentication.
The ordinary procedure is Egyptian Foreign Ministry pre-certification, an accepted German translation and submission through TLScontact for embassy legalisation. The pre-certification should be no more than one year old. Residents of the Alexandria honorary consular district can also use that office under its stated conditions. Follow the embassy checklist for the original document and translation; a bilingual certificate does not automatically remove the translation requirement.
Document authentication and qualification recognition are different checks. For the academic Blue Card route, confirm the institution and degree evidence in Anabin or obtain the appropriate ZAB assessment. Do not assume that a named Egyptian university or national accreditation alone proves German comparability. A regulated job also needs the relevant German professional permission.
Chancenkarte (Germany Opportunity Card)
Points-based 1-year residence permit that lets non-EU skilled workers from any country move to Germany without a job offer to search for qualifying work. Six points or full qualification recognition required.
Egyptian documents do not use an Apostille procedure. Where authentication is required, follow Cairo’s MFA pre-certification, accepted translation and German legalisation instructions; document authentication does not establish qualification recognition.
Choose the Opportunity Card qualification route before preparing evidence. Full German recognition can support the skilled-worker option without points. The points option instead requires a qualification recognised in the country of training, the required language evidence and at least six points. Do not infer four partial-recognition points from an Egyptian university name or an academic comparability result: check the actual recognition decision and the official points conditions.
Skilled Worker residence permit (§18a/§18b AufenthG)
Sponsored work and residence permit for qualified non-EU workers from any country worldwide who have a German job offer and a recognised qualification.
Egypt is outside the Apostille Convention. For required Egyptian public documents, follow the German Embassy Cairo legalisation checklist rather than arranging an apostille.
For the skilled-worker route, check recognition of the qualification or comparability of an academic degree. A regulated profession also needs the relevant German licence to practise. A university name or Egyptian accreditation alone is not evidence of German comparability; use the actual Anabin entries or appropriate assessment. Authentication of the document is a separate step.
