Calculate your moving cash requirement
Use household quotes and your own budget, all in one currency. Nothing is uploaded or saved. This is a cash-planning calculation, not a visa eligibility or tax assessment.
Start with a real address
Collect three current, comparable housing examples in the same area and condition. Add electricity, water, gas, internet, local transport, groceries, phone, healthcare, school or childcare and recurring travel. Treat furnished temporary rent separately from a normal lease.
Ask for recent energy information and bills where appropriate, but do not assume the previous household predicts yours. Heating, cooling, remote work, pool maintenance and vehicle use can change the result materially.
Convert annual costs into monthly reserves
Add tax preparation, insurance renewals, residence documents, school materials, vehicle inspection, repairs, flights and professional registrations as annual lines divided by twelve. Keep deposits and furniture in the moving budget, not the recurring budget.
If income is paid in another currency, model a weaker exchange rate and transfer costs. If work status changes tax or Social Security, model the compliant arrangement rather than net foreign pay.
Stress-test before signing
Run a normal month, a high-energy month and a disruption month with duplicate housing or lost income. Set a housing ceiling from the stressed budget, then include commute and school costs when comparing neighbourhoods.
After arrival, record actuals for 90 days and rebuild the forecast. Do not justify an unaffordable lease with a broad claim that Spain is cheap.
Sources and checks
The linked authorities set the rules. VisaAtlas explains how the steps fit together; planning suggestions are not a decision on your immigration status, tax residence or entitlement to services.
