Separate entry, residence and work permission

Zimbabwe separates holiday, business and conference visas from Temporary Employment and investor, spouse, student or scholar permits. A business visa supports visits and meetings; it does not authorise taking a local position.

A visa waiver, visitor visa or business-visitor permission is not an open right to take employment or provide local services. Remote work also needs an immigration, labour and tax analysis unless the authority publishes a route that expressly covers it.

Complete the arrival record

Have the employer confirm the Temporary Employment Permit sequence before travel and inspect every endorsement on arrival. Preserve proof of lawful stay because banking and later renewals may depend on the complete record.

Inspect names, passport number, sponsor or purpose, permitted activity and expiry on every issued record. Keep the approval, receipt and a copy of the entry stamp outside the passport.

Make housing support the move

In Harare or Bulawayo, inspect water storage, power backup, internet and transport; for mining, agriculture or conservation work, add medical evacuation and road-access checks.

Verify landlord authority, lease language, deposit, inventory, utilities, internet and early-exit terms. Keep the real address and payment trail for immigration, banking and employer files.

Set up banking, payroll and tax evidence

Agree the salary currency, conversion method, transfer evidence and tax handling in writing. Maintain records for every payment because multiple currencies and changing payment practices can complicate reconciliation.

Ask the bank and tax authority for their live identity, permit, address, tax-number and source-of-funds requirements. Immigration status alone does not determine tax residence: retain travel days, payslips, foreign income and business invoices.

Plan each family member and essential service

Spouse, student and scholar categories require separate evidence and should not be assumed to grant work. Confirm school fees, transport, healthcare network and medicine supply before committing to the assignment.

A dependant, student or family residence document should not be treated as an adult work permit without confirmation. Carry legalised civil records, prescriptions, vaccination records and prior-school reports.

Control renewal, changes and current risk

Renew the permit rather than extending a visitor entry around it, and clear any employer or investment change first. Check official advice for demonstrations, roads and border crossings before travel.

Read current official travel advice for Zimbabwe, the exact region and any overland route before travel. Confirm that insurance covers the location and planned work.
