Register online after moving to Jersey, or use the existing-card service if you already have a Social Security number. Check the age and status conditions before paying.

Which registration service do you need?
Choose the service by whether you already have a Jersey Social Security number. Registration records housing and employment status; it does not grant immigration permission.
No Jersey Social Security number
Use new-resident registration. Each person aged 16 or over registers themselves; a parent can register dependent children under 16.
Already have a Jersey Social Security number
Use the registration-card service, with Digital ID. A digital card can be saved and shared from your government dashboard; physical cards remain available.
Cannot apply online

What will the card cost?

Exception: a special Entitled grant
For specified Entitled grants under regulation 2(1)(e), Article 2(2) sets £10,506.25. It applies only if the applicant has not previously received that grant and an Entitled card, and was not ordinarily resident for the continuous three months immediately before the 2012 Law commenced. Confirm this exceptional category with the authority; it is not the ordinary newcomer fee.

- Have your passport image and, where required, evidence of immigration permission to live and work in Jersey.
- For Licensed status, the application form must be signed by you and your employer within the last month.
- For first registration, prepare your address, arrival date, employment and income details, plus marriage and children’s identity documents where relevant. Tax registration happens at the same time.
- A status claim may need residence-history or relationship evidence. Use the checklist for your actual category; do not assume your partner’s card gives you identical rights.

After registration: card, tax and permissions
Show the card with photo ID when required by your employer, landlord or property lawyer. Tell Revenue Jersey your earnings when you find work if you registered while job-seeking.
Your card records the category controlling housing and employment rights. A card alone is not unrestricted permission to take any job or occupy any property.

After approval: prepare for your next step
For Register as a Jersey Resident, use the actual decision and the issuing authority’s instructions to establish what has been granted. A successful application, permission to enter, permission to work and a residence document are not interchangeable.
- 1. Check the decision. Confirm the name, passport, status granted, start date and any next action. Resolve an error with the authority before relying on the document for travel or employment.
- 2. Establish the travel step. Read any entry window, activation, collection or in-country registration instruction. For an extension or change of status, do not assume leaving the country is required or safe while a further step remains pending.
- 3. Confirm what you may do. Check whether employment, self-employment, remote work or study is permitted under the status granted. Do not infer unrestricted work rights from the absence of an employer sponsor.
- 4. Organise the household. Check each accompanying person’s permission separately, then arrange healthcare, accommodation, access to money and the relevant local registrations. A tax number or bank account does not by itself prove a right to work.
- 5. Keep the ongoing conditions visible. Record the actual expiry, renewal process, permitted absences and any duty to report changes. An initial grant does not automatically establish permanent residence or citizenship.
