Worked examples
Typical profiles scored against the CRS grid. The totals below are produced by the same calculator above. General-draw cut-offs in the last two years have mostly fallen between 470 and 545; category-based draws run lower.
| Profile | Detail | CRS | Breakdown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indian software engineer, 29, single | Master's, CLB 9 across all four abilities, 3 years foreign experience, no Canadian work, no PNP — the typical unsupported tech profile. | 469 | Core 369 · transfer 100 |
| Same profile, with a provincial nomination | Identical to the unsupported Indian engineer above, but holding an enhanced PNP nomination — the +600 that effectively guarantees an invitation. | 1069 | Core 369 · transfer 100 · additional 600 |
| Filipino nurse, 32, single | Bachelor's, CLB 9 across all four, 1 year Canadian work, 2 years foreign — a strong healthcare CEC-leaning profile. | 478 | Core 378 · transfer 100 |
| Indian couple, principal 30, with spouse | Master's principal at CLB 9, bachelor's spouse at CLB 7, 3 years foreign experience, a sibling in Canada (+15). | 472 | Core 337 · spouse 20 · transfer 100 · additional 15 |
| Experienced applicant, 47, single | Bachelor's, CLB 8 across all four, 1 year foreign experience — age points are zero from 45, so the score sits well below recent cut-offs. | 250 | Core 212 · transfer 38 |
| Brazilian professional, 30, single, bilingual | Master's, English first language CLB 7, French second language CLB 7 in all four (qualifies for the +50 French bonus) — the lever that unlocks French-category draws. | 395 | Core 320 · transfer 25 · additional 50 |
Totals are out of a 1,200-point maximum. A provincial nomination adds 600 points; the French-language bonus adds 50. Confirm your own number in your IRCC Express Entry profile.
Typical CRS bands by source country
What CRS score is normal for someone with your background? These bands are calibrated against Express Entry draw data 2024–2026 and the typical points-stack we see for each major source country. "Unsupported" means no PNP, no arranged employment, no Canadian education, and no French. Numbers shift fast — confirm against the latest IRCC draw report before staking a strategy on them.
Indian applicants

- 450–510 unsupported; 470–525 with strong CLB 9 + 3+ years of skilled experience
- Strongest levers
- Language (CLB 9 in IELTS/CELPIP is the single biggest lever), age < 30, master’s-level education

- Most-used follow-on

About this calculator
Canada\u2019s Express Entry manages permanent residence applications under three federal programs: Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Candidates submit an online profile and are ranked by CRS score; IRCC periodically invites the highest-scoring candidates to apply for permanent residence.
The CRS grid has four parts: up to 500 points of core human capital for single applicants (460 if accompanied by a spouse), up to 40 spouse factor points, up to 100 skill transferability points, and up to 600 additional points (provincial nomination, arranged employment, Canadian education, sibling in Canada, French).

FAQs
What CRS score do I need to get an invitation?
Cut-off scores vary by draw type. General draws in the last two years have mostly landed between 470 and 545. Category-based draws (for health, STEM, French-speakers, transport, agriculture, trades) have been lower — sometimes as low as 370. Provincial nominations add 600 points and effectively guarantee an invitation.
Is this calculator official?
No. This is an independent implementation of the public Ministerial Instructions grid published by IRCC. It is correct to the grid as of the last-reviewed date, but the only authoritative CRS calculator is the one inside your IRCC Express Entry online profile.
What if I have more than three years of foreign work experience?
The foreign-work bonus caps at three years. Additional years don’t add more points under skill transferability, though they can strengthen your profile for employer offers.
Does a PNP nomination really add 600 points?
Yes — a valid enhanced Provincial Nominee Program nomination adds 600 CRS points. This is why PNP-stream draws have cut-offs well above 600 while the nomination itself drives the scoring.
Can I save or share my results?

What CRS score is typical for Indian / Iranian / Filipino / Brazilian applicants?
Indian unsupported profiles typically land 450–510, with category-based or PNP support pushing 470–525. Iranian profiles cluster 440–505 driven by language and education. Filipino healthcare cohorts hit 460–520 in category-based draws. Brazilian profiles unlock 480–540 only when French B2+ is added (the +50 French bonus is the single biggest lever). See the full source-country band table on this page.
How do category-based draws change the calculus?
Category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, French-speakers, transport, agriculture, trades, education) have run with cut-offs as low as 370 — well below general draws. If your occupation maps to a category, your effective threshold is much lower than the headline 470–545 general-draw band would suggest. IRCC sets categories yearly; the 2026 categories are published on canada.ca.
