Moving to Suriname: permission and practical setup
Entry permission, a residence permit and permission to work are separate. The foreign-worker One Stop Unit coordinates specified employer cases, while civil registration and immigration police steps still matter after approval.

Coordinate employment and residence decisions
The government One Stop Unit streamlines work and residence filings for covered foreign employees but does not erase the underlying permissions. Other applicants use the ordinary labour and residence processes. A visitor or business entry is not authority for local employment.
| Plan | Route | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Covered foreign employment | One Stop Unit Foreign Worker Work and Residence Procedure | Employer and coordinated filing |
| Ordinary foreign employment | Work Permit for Foreign Workers | Labour permission |
| General residence | Residence Permit for Other Foreigners and MKV Cases | Residence without assumed work access |
| Surinamese origin | Residence Permit for People of Surinamese Origin | Origin evidence and residence process |
Prepare translated and legalised evidence for both tracks
Use the live route instructions for passport, police, medical, employer, qualification, support and civil records. Confirm Dutch translations and authentication before travel. Retain the application, entry and approval records for civil registration and foreign-police follow-up.
Complete CBB and foreign-police actions as instructed
The government describes separate population-registration and foreign-police steps alongside the One Stop Unit. Keep names and the residential address consistent. In Paramaribo, inspect drainage, flood exposure, water, power, internet, security and lease terms before payment.
Connect tax, social insurance and banking to the job
Ask the employer to document payroll and social-insurance treatment and establish the tax registration required by the activity. Immigration permission does not settle foreign-income treatment. Banks independently verify identity, residence, address and source of funds.
Verify healthcare, school and dependant status
Confirm public, employer and private care for every family member, including specialist or evacuation arrangements. Ask Education and the intended school for language, placement, immigration, vaccination and prior-school records; confirm a partner’s work permission separately.
Resolve licences, freight and veterinary entry
Ask the police licensing authority which resident driving process applies before using a foreign licence. Obtain Customs treatment for household goods or a vehicle and Agriculture clearance before a pet travels; track work and residence expiry dates together.
Your moving checklist
Tick off the tasks that apply to you. The timing is a planning order, not a substitute for the deadlines on your permission or an official instruction.
