Rule changes note —Suriname publishes immigration guidance across central government pages, ministry pages and official PDFs. The government travel page names VFS as the online channel for entry-fee vouchers and some visa filings, but the VFS site blocks automated checks, so Visa Atlas uses the accessible gov.sr pages as the source of record and points applicants back to those pages before filing.

Overview

The official residence-permit page says the Ministry of Justice and Police handles residence permits through the Head Department Foreigners Affairs, and that Suriname distinguishes between people of Surinamese origin and people not of Surinamese origin. People of Surinamese origin are exempt from the MKV requirement. Because of their special bond with Suriname, they can apply after entry, within the period of legal stay, for residence for a definite period with a maximum duration of two years or for residence for an indefinite period. The page lists categories of Surinamese origin, including people born in Suriname with another nationality, people covered by nationality-law articles who now hold another nationality, people born abroad to a Suriname-born parent, and spouses and minor children who actually belong to the family of those people.

ℹ️ Who can apply?

You do not need a job offer or employer to apply for the Residence Permit for People of Surinamese Origin. This route can lead to permanent residence. Open to qualifying applicants from all countries.
