Rule changes note —Suriname publishes immigration guidance across central government pages, ministry pages and official PDFs. The government travel page names VFS as the online channel for entry-fee vouchers and some visa filings, but the VFS site blocks automated checks, so Visa Atlas uses the accessible gov.sr pages as the source of record and points applicants back to those pages before filing.

Overview

The official residence page says visa-required foreigners who intend to stay in Suriname for longer than three months must apply for an MKV, a short-stay authorisation, at the Suriname embassy or consulate in the country of origin. The page says documents submitted for MKV are the same documents necessary for the residence-permit application. It also says foreigners from countries with a visa-abolition arrangement and citizens of other CARICOM member states are part of the non-visa-required category; they must first report to the Foreigners Police after arrival and then apply for residence during legal stay at the named Foreigners Affairs counter or in Nickerie if they intend to reside there.

ℹ️ Who can apply?

You do not need a job offer or employer to apply for the Residence Permit for Other Foreigners and MKV Cases. This route does not lead to permanent residence. Open to qualifying applicants from all countries.
