Rule changes note —Suriname publishes immigration guidance across central government pages, ministry pages and official PDFs. The government travel page names VFS as the online channel for entry-fee vouchers and some visa filings, but the VFS site blocks automated checks, so Visa Atlas uses the accessible gov.sr pages as the source of record and points applicants back to those pages before filing.

Overview

The Suriname government announced an eased procedure for short-stay visas, work permits and residence permits for foreign employees, developed to make business activity easier and to respond to demand for foreign specialists, including oil and gas. The government says applications can be handled digitally by the employer or authorised representative, with a One Stop Unit where BIBIS, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Police process the request in parallel. The 2025 AWJ explanation adds that once AWJ has approved its part of the digital application and the foreign national has an MKV, the worker can work immediately on arrival, while physical filing with Work Permit Foreigners after arrival remains required so the Director of Labour can issue the actual work permit.
