Overview

Cambodia's long-stay system is built on the E-class "ordinary" visa, which you typically get before or on arrival and then extend inside the country into a sub-class. The EB is the business and employment sub-class - the most common one for foreigners working or running a business in Cambodia - and EB extensions can be renewed indefinitely. Honesty box - please read two things. First, the EB visa by itself does NOT authorise you to work: to be employed you also need a separate Work Permit from the labour authorities. Second, Cambodia has no permanent-residence pathway in the usual sense - long stays are achieved by renewing the E-class visa again and again, not by gaining settled status. Treat any fee or duration figure as indicative and confirm on the official immigration page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work in Cambodia on an EB visa alone?+−

No. The EB visa gives you a lawful basis to stay for business or employment, but it does not by itself authorise you to work. To be employed in Cambodia you also need a separate Work Permit from the labour authorities. People are sometimes caught out by this, so make sure you hold both, and confirm the current requirements on the official immigration page.

Can the EB visa lead to permanent residence?+−

Not in the usual sense. Cambodia does not offer a standard permanent-residence pathway for foreigners. Instead, people stay long term by renewing the E-class visa - including the EB sub-class - again and again, which extensions allow indefinitely. So your long stay is built on continuous renewals rather than settled status. Check the current rules on the official page.

What documents do I need to extend into the EB business sub-class?+−

You typically need a valid passport with your E-class ordinary visa, documents supporting your business or employment purpose, and your separate Work Permit if you are employed in Cambodia. The extension process may ask for further documents, so confirm the current list on the official immigration page.

What happens if I let my EB visa extension lapse?+−

Letting an extension lapse breaks your lawful stay in Cambodia, which is listed among the common blockers for the E-class sub-classes. The practical takeaway is to renew the EB extension before it expires to keep your stay continuous. Check the current rules and any consequences on the official immigration page.

Is there a limit on how long I can keep renewing the EB visa?+−

No fixed cap is described: EB extensions are typically issued for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months and can be renewed indefinitely, so you stay long term by renewing the E-class visa rather than reaching a settled status. There is no permanent-residence status to graduate into. Treat any figure as indicative and confirm on the official immigration page.
