Overview
Permanent residence is Mongolia's status for foreigners who have built up a qualifying period of residence and want to settle long term, generally available after about five years of qualifying residence. Honesty box - please read two things. First, there is a genuine permanent-residence pathway here - this is a real route, not a marketing one. Second, permanent residence in Mongolia does NOT lead to citizenship, and there is no citizenship-by-investment; naturalisation is a wholly separate process with its own requirements. Good to know: the exact qualifying years and conditions are set by the authorities and depend on the basis you held, so we treat the five-year figure as indicative. Confirm the current rules on the official Immigration Agency of Mongolia page.

Frequently asked questions
How many years of residence do I need?+
Permanent residence is generally available after about five years of qualifying residence, though the exact period and conditions are set by the authorities and depend on the basis you held - employment, investment or family. Treat the five-year figure as indicative rather than a guarantee, and confirm the current requirement for your situation on the official immigration.gov.mn page.
Does permanent residence lead to Mongolian citizenship?+
No - and this is an important point. Mongolia has a genuine permanent-residence pathway, but permanent residence does not lead to citizenship, and there is no citizenship-by-investment route. Naturalisation is a separate process with its own, stricter requirements. So permanent residence is a settled status to live in the country, not a step that automatically becomes a passport. Check the separate citizenship rules on the official page.
