Overview

The study residence permit is for third-country nationals admitted to an accredited educational institution in Slovenia. You evidence your enrolment along with the usual identity, accommodation, health-insurance and means-of-support documents, and apply at a Slovenian mission abroad or, if eligible, an administrative unit. It is renewed for the duration of your course. It is not a direct settlement route, and study time usually counts only in part toward EU long-term residence, but Slovenia offers a post-study job-seeking option, and many graduates move on to a work or other permit afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Can I work while I study?+−

Students may usually work limited hours alongside study, subject to conditions. Confirm what is permitted on the official page.

Can I stay after graduating?+−

Slovenia offers a post-study job-seeking option, and many graduates then move to a work or other permit. Confirm the current rules on the official page.

Does my time as a student in Slovenia count toward permanent residence?+−

Only in part - study time usually counts only partly toward EU long-term residence, so it does not count fully toward Slovenia's roughly five-year settlement requirement, and relying on study periods can be a blocker for permanent residence. Confirm the current rules on the official page.
