Immigration routes for lawyers
Cross-border lawyering is highly jurisdiction-specific. Qualifying as a solicitor in another country typically involves separate conversion exams (QLTS/SQE in the UK, bar exam in the US, NCA in Canada). Visas usually follow the sponsored-employment route, with partners and senior counsel sometimes qualifying for intra-company transfer routes.

What decides which route fits
Lawyers are not usually a licensed profession, so the route that fits you turns mostly on whether you have a qualifying job offer (for sponsored routes) and whether you meet each country's salary or points threshold.

Eligibility gate
Qualify through an approved endorsing body or an eligible prestigious prize. Typical evidence includes recommendation letters, published work, patents, awards, a CV and a personal statement.

Timing and settlement
Processing is tracked at 3 weeks – 8 weeks. Settlement can be 3 years for listed endorsing bodies, exceptional talent or eligible-award routes, and 5 years for exceptional promise cases.
