Overview
Permanent residence is Armenia's settlement status, issued as a renewable card. Under the reform taking effect on 1 August 2026, the permanent residence card runs for five years with renewal options, and it becomes the main long-term status after the ten-year "special" residency closes to new applicants. You generally qualify after holding temporary residence for the required period, on grounds such as work, business, family or Armenian descent, with a new investment-based fast track to immediate permanent residence also introduced. Armenia generally permits dual citizenship, and naturalisation is a separate process. Armenia is not in the EU.
