Overview
Egypt issues family residence permits to the spouse and dependent children of an Egyptian national, and to the dependants of a foreign national who already holds a residence permit. The permit is tied to the qualifying relationship and to the sponsor's status, and it is renewed in line with that status. It allows the family member to reside in Egypt but does not by itself authorise employment. As with all Egyptian residence permits, it is renewable but never permanent, because Egypt has no permanent-residence status; a foreign spouse of an Egyptian may, however, be able to pursue naturalisation under its own separate rules.

Frequently asked questions
Does marrying an Egyptian give me permanent residence?+
No. Egypt has no permanent-residence status, so a family residence permit is renewable but never permanent. A foreign spouse of an Egyptian may instead be able to pursue Egyptian citizenship through naturalisation, which has its own separate requirements. Confirm the current rules on the official Ministry of Interior residence portal.
Can a family residence permit holder work in Egypt?+
A family residence permit lets you reside based on the relationship but does not by itself authorise employment; working would require a separate work permit. Confirm the current rules on the official Ministry of Interior portal.
